VFX & Compositing

Compositing merges real footage with digital elements like CGI, effects and motion graphics so everything looks natural and cinematic. You learn After Effects for motion graphics and titles, Mocha for tracking and screen replacement, Nuke for node-based compositing, Silhouette for rotoscoping, paint work and clean-ups, and 3DEqualizer for 3D camera tracking and matchmoving.

01Try it

What the camera shot, and what the audience sees.

Drag the slider to wipe between the green-screen plate, with its tracking markers, and the finished composite.

Plate

Final

Keying removes the green, tracking locks the new background to the camera, and compositing blends the two.

02 // Layer by layer

One frame.Five layers.

A finished shot is a stack of layers, each made in a different program. Switch them off one at a time to take this frame apart. The frame is a drawing, to show the idea.
